Mama woke up this morning for the first time in weeks with absolutely NO NAUSEA! I am praying that we have a repeat tomorrow. She went through the entire day with (all together now) NO NAUSEA! She is tired, but she ate well today and was still feeling well when I tucked her into bed tonight. Let's say it one more time, just for fun, shall we? NO NAUSEA! As Ellen put it, those words are music to our ears! It has been a long haul and we are hoping that all will be back to normal very soon.
My children have been little troopers! We are well into their summer and it has not been the summer of which they dreamed. All of them have pulled duty sitting with the grandparents, spending the night, washing dishes, taking out trash, helping Granddaddy in the garden or yard, etc...and all with very little complaint. I am quite proud of them. I told them this was preparation for when we all changed places. One day, I fully expect them to take care of me and their daddy when we are old and unable to care for ourselves, until we are just incapacitated beyond their ability to do so. After this challenge, I feel that I will be in very capable hands. They have done well. I hope soon to be able to let their summer begin so we can have some fun.
I have a confession to make. While I am embarrassed to make it, simultaneously, I am extremely proud . Don't laugh, but I have been working on my personal checkbook for a couple of months now trying to balance it. I have never balanced my checkbook. As long as I was within a couple of dollars of the balance the bank had, I was good. Well, after much ado, I am happy to announce, for the first time ever in 47 years, I balanced my own checkbook, TO THE PENNY! Yeah!!! I know it seems trivial to all of you out there who have been doing this forever, but this is big stuff for me. Anyone who knows much about me, knows that I hate dealing with numbers. It has never been my strong suite. Maybe I don't like it because I am no good at it or maybe I am no good at it because I don't like it, I don't know. What I do know is that today the numbers did not defeat me. Today the balanced checkbook is mine! Ha!

I Am So Proud Of My Daddy!
Mama has really been sick. Nauseated beyond belief with wave after wave of it washing over her until suddenly, it dissappears. Until the next time. In these few moments of feeling better Mama will come sit in her recliner or sit at the dining room table with us and chat until she has to once again retire as she succumbs to the squeamishness that has plagued her for a couple of weeks now.
My Daddy (until this week) just thought that if Mama wasn't in the bed, she must be feeling better and things were back to normal. Bless his heart, he couldn't see well enough to look into her face and find the hauntingly drawn look that was there or the sunken eyes surrounded by dark circles. His ears wouldn't let him hear the weakness in her voice or the little sighs of sickness that we could all hear. Mama's Dr. told her on Wednesday to do only three things...eat, drink, and rest. Her blood pressure was 177 over 120 and he meant for her to rest because that was the only thing that was going to make her better. So Patty told Daddy about it and he didn't like that he was having to take orders from anybody, Patty, the Dr., anyone... but to his credit, he listened. He has been doing for himself things that he hasn't done in a very long time. Let me interject here that with the removal of his gall bladder, I think he is finding that he is feeling better than he has felt in a very long time. He has really stepped up to the plate and is doing his part to help Mama get well and I am so proud of him for it. He is doing things that for most anyone else would be considered "normal", but for him it is huge!
Mama is feeling better tonight, I don't know if it will last until morning. Mornings are the worst time for her. I told her that if I didn't know better, I would think she had morning sickness. LOL. She chuckled. The bad joke was worth it just to hear her laugh and see her smile. I have really missed her smile. We hope that this is just the residual effects of the antibiotic she was on for her bronchitis treatment and that it will be diminishing each day until it dissappears altogether. She is such a trooper and so is Daddy. Just when you think you know somebody....

The Parents are Home!
Boy, how that term has taken on a new meaning! Instead of every teenager in the house heading for the back exits, it means that the 80-somethings are finally back in their house in Fort Deposit!
Daddy is much improved as he is becoming grumpier by the day. It reminds me of the movie "Grumpy Old Men" and "On Golden Pond". Mama pointed out tonight how his grumpiness meant he was recovering nicely and I replied to her, "Bless YOUR heart" to which we both laughed!
Mama is feeling better today. Yesterday, she was still very tired, but today she looked more rested and didn't cough as much. I am taking meals to them at night making certain there is plenty to have leftovers for lunch the next day while I am in Greenville at school! (Arrgghh!) Callie and Gracie are keeping good watch and helping out while I am away. Then I take over when I return. I hoed some of the weeds away from the squash plants today and gathered seven squash to be prepared for a meal. Daddy is pleased. Had to get him some fertilizer for the tomatoes...don't know when he will put that out OR have Micah or me put it out. I am the daughter with the brown thumb. I kill plants and I have been entrusted with the garden in their absence. I managed to keep it alive and even producing, but it doesn't look like it would if Daddy had been managing it! It has been quite an experience for me. We will all be much happier when Daddy can resume the garden responsibilities, probably most of all, the garden!

Just found out that Micah will have to attend summer school for all of next week to be able to pass to the ninth grade! ARGGHHH!! (That was a Charlie Brown moment for all of you who may be too young to recognize it.) Amidst all the other chaos in my world, I now have to not only pay for tutoring for a week, but cart him to Greenville every morning for three hours for his remedial schooling. I have read him the riot act! I have enacted a new law for the duration of the summer season where he is concerned and it is embodied in three little words. "You are mine!" He is going to have to work off his debt to me and pay for this expense on his own. I am madder than a wet settin' hen.
I didn't "apply" myself in school as I should have, but I made sure that I passed! The last thing I wanted to do was repeat something that I hated being in the first time around! I just don't understand failing. He brought up his grade at the end of the semester, but didn't do well on the semester test and that brought down his grade. Luckily, it was only one semester and only one subject (Science of all things).
Just had to blow off some steam so as not to kill the boy! I feel a headache coming on!!!

Tide Country!
I am a Bama fan. I have been a Bama fan since birth. My Daddy made sure of that! Still, in all my 47 years of Crimson Tide devotion I have never been to Tuscaloosa...until last weekend. It is summer and although baseball is going on (and the Tide is doing well, I hear), it ain't football season. However, I decided I like Tuscaloosa quite a bit, probably better than I would during football season. The children and I got a little bit familiar with the ins and outs of town while Michael worked. We played in the pool and shopped a little and even took our little Pomeranian, Prissy with us. We visited University church on Sunday and it was good to expose ourselves to somethings that were not our "normal" and our "typical".
The wildest thing is that in my packing for the trip on Friday, I left one of my bags at home. It was the all-important personal item bag in which was found my daily medications! Yikes!!! (Friday was a nightmare from torment day all the way around! We didn't arrive in Tuscaloosa until 1:00 am Sat.!) I wondered how I would fare being off my meds for several days, but amazingly, I had no serious side effects or repercussions! I just now took my Topomax for tonight and will start up the rest in the morning, but I think the sheer lack of stress kept me feeling good without my scripts!
Michael will be posted there for about another month until state inspections are completed and the upgrades are done, so we plan to visit him again now that the little ones are out of school. My children are so easily entertained! Just take them to a hotel with a pool and they are completely satisfied. I am so blessed to have such dear, easy to please, children!
ROLL TIDE!!!!
